Yoga Class Descriptions

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga is an advanced and challenging form of hatha yoga primarily introduced to the west by Sri K Pattabhi Jois. The
practice consists of vinyasa, connective movement that together with smooth, deep breathing (ujjayi), gaze (dristi) and locks (bandhas) create heat in the body that burns off toxins and poisons that we carry with us. This powerful and vigorous practice purifies and realigns the body, cultivates a feeling of inner peace, and is at its essence ameditation in motion.

Mysore style:
Mysore-style means each student is taught one-to-one, at their own pace, in a group setting. Students learn the progressive Ashtanga sequence as it is appropriate for their individual needs and abilities.

Mysore-style is different from the usual way in which yoga are taught in that:

• the class is silent
• students practice their own sequence of asana at their own pace
• the teacher assists by giving physical adjustments and one-on-one feedback.

Taught by Anne Finstad or Jason Stein.
Classes start 4/28.
Pricing can be found here.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga includes asanas, pranayama and a general introduction of meditation techniques. The class is paced at an intermediate level, but all levels are welcome. Classes begin with a short savasana (proper relaxation) and progress through Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) and a series of asanas (steady postures) and concludes with pranayama (yogic breathing). The class emphasizes focusing the mind and conscious control of the breath while developing a supple spine and body.

Taught by Meghan Maris.
Classes start 5/4.
Drop in $10 or $70/10 classes.

Yoga for Body Acceptance

This gentle yoga class, taught in the Kripalu tradition, can help you reclaim your health and well-being by increasing body awareness and promoting self acceptance. A supportive environment is created for students to use props and adapt poses to safely explore yoga. Students are encouraged to move at their own pace and to honor their body’s needs. All sizes and levels are welcome.

Taught by Dana Sturtevant.
Classes start 5/13.
Drop in for $14/class or purchase a five class card for $60.
